Dennis Bathory-Kitsz - Teething Rings
Here's a piece that I've mentioned before in passing, but have never posted. Teething Rings was written in 1975, and owes an a debt of influence to the Fluxus movement. The folksiness of the written score contrasts with the avant-garde nature of the performance. Teething Rings is written for seven performers: six "yammerers" and a "baby sitter". It starts with all six yammerers screaming and crying, the baby sitter enters and directs the performance of the others by placing dummies/pacifiers in, or removing them from, the yammerers' mouths.

Adult babies on stage: there are those that might try to say this is some sort of commentary on the roles of conductor and orchestra. Personally, I prefer to think that this piece is meant more as a memorable spectacle. Either way, this is one of the most gloriously peculiar acts ever committed in the name of music, and for that we should commend it.
