Barry Adamson - Hungry Ants
Some people were just meant to write film soundtracks. Barry Adamson is one of them. After a decade of playing in bands such as Magazine and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, he finally released his first solo album, Moss Side Story. It was one of the all-time great film soundtracks. There was no accompanying film, but little things like that don't really matter when you've finally found your idiom. It was a calling card, and a very effective one.
Since then he's contributed music to a number of films. There are echoes of the noir of Bernard Herrman, and the adventurousness of Morricone, but Adamson is very much his own composer. Here's a sample of his work, the splendid Hungry Ants from the soundtrack to Natural Born Killers. Excellent stuff.
