Old Time Relijun - Liberation
I remember the good old days. I remember when music seemed to burst out of nowhere, when musicians were mutant bucktoothed madmen, when the raucous and the experimental informed things in equal measure. Oh yes, I remember those good old days. It was 2007.
That was the year those slackjawed throwback idiot geniuses who call themselves Old Time Relijun released the album Catharsis In Crisis. From that album, this is Liberation and it's great stuff. It's got echoes of Beefheart and of sax led no wave and post-punk outfits. It's music that boils and ferments under an elastic surface, coarse with stubble, shifty with sideways glances. It's Berlin meets the bayou. Marvellous.
