Leo Kottke - Vaseline Machine Gun
Although I'll never forget the first time I heard Leo Kottke, I fear that I'll never remember the title of the TV show in which it was featured. It was a documentary serial, a road trip through America, filmed by a Brit who had gone there on holiday and ended up staying for the best part of a decade. It was a picture of a country seen through the window of a moving car. It was a very visually arresting bit of film-making, that's for sure. So much so, that even now I can't hear Vaseline Machine Gun without picturingpetrol gas stations flicking past on lonely desert roads at sunset.
The track is taken from Kottke's 1969 debut album, 6- and 12-String Guitar. You too will love it.
