Hugh Cornwell & Robert Williams - Nosferatu
Just a quickie today. There's a little known album from 1979 called Nosferatu. It was recorded by Hugh Cornwell of the Stranglers, and Robert Williams, the drummer with Captain Beefheart's Magic Band. This was an unlikely combination and one that produced interesting, if not always satisfying, results.
The one song that stands out on the album is this extraordinary title track, a full speed rush into terror. Williams' drumming takes centre stage amidst some dark electronic textures, with Cornwell's half-spoken vocals manipulated into near-anonymity. It's admirably short and all the more memorable for it. A fascinating curiosity.
