Talking Heads - Memories Can't Wait
Have you ever received a heavy blow to the back of the head, and then spent the next few minutes wondering what just happened, and why everyone is looking at you with concern on their faces? That's what listening to Memories Can't Wait feels like. The murky, overloaded electronics stun the listener, pummelling them into the wide-eyed isolation that David Byrne sings about. It's an nigh-on-perfect artistic achievement, and the only way to better it would be for the music to be played on 140dB Tesla coils while Byrne whispers his words directly into your brain via neural implant. Until then, this recording from the Heads' seminal Fear of Music will have to suffice.
