Ape Has Killed Ape! - Blunt
Ape Has Killed Ape! used to be part of Meanwhile, Back in Communist Russia, except that they aren't called Ape Has Killed Ape! any more, they're called Impure Theatre. None of which is likely to mean all that much to anyone reading this, but it's the done thing. You know, have some facts up there to begin with. Makes things seem slightly more authoritative.

When they were MBICR, the main thing that set them apart from their post-rock peers was the deliciously aching and deadpan spoken monologues of vocalist Emily Gray. The good news is that in their transformation to AHKA, although they left the post-rock behind, the monologues stayed. Blunt features chiming, ringing warm electronics, combined with a skittery beat. While not my usual fare, it does seem to work better with Gray's voice than the exaggerated dynamics of their prior sound. And with a voice as distinctive as hers, that's what matters.
