The Birthday Party - Release the Bats
Lust shouldn't make sense. If you sing about lust and do so with perfect grammar then you're doing it wrong. That's not to say, however, that if you sing about lust and your song is full of vampire bats filled to bursting point with blood, that you are doing it right. No. All that says it that you are Nick Cave.
It's possible that Cave has improved as a lyricist over the years. Indeed, when you hear him singing "Sex horror sex bat sex sex horror sex vampire," you may find the point to be inarguable. However, that's not the point. Release the Bats remains a truly shocking song, raw and violent and disturbing. Think of it as the musical equivalent of Jodorowsky's Santa Sangre, but only one forty-eighth of the length.
