Fugazi - Reprovisional
I never got to see Fugazi play live. The one time I tried, I neglected to book in advance, figuring that they were too obscure to sell out the venue. Naturally, I was wrong, and have carried a childish resentment against the band ever since. It didn't stop me from listening to the gig from the street outside, though.
It is with the confidence born of experience that I can state that Fugazi's sound is not one that benefits from the muffling effects of several feet of concrete. Somehow, the geometry and the scratch of the guitars gets lost, and it's only because you know the rhythms of the lyrics that you can tell what's being played. One day, I expect that my hearing will finally go on me, and all music will sound that way. In the meantime, listening to Reprovisional becomes more vital than ever. Go do it.
