Slint - Good Morning, Captain
Sometimes I think Slint's Spiderland isn't as great as it's cracked up to be. Those mumbled, flat vocals of Brian McMahan sound like he's trying not to draw any attention to himself. It can be annoying. Still, those thoughts usually get dispelled by the time that the album's closer, the magnificent Good Morning, Captain comes along. You know it already, I'm sure: a baleful, ominous piece, full of dread and doubt and horrible realisation. It also contains one of the candidates for the Greatest Scream in All Music; even without all of its other qualities, that alone would make it notable and worthwhile.
