The Drones - The Minotaur
Rock is a serious business. No, really.
Actually, it's good to know that there are people out there who aren't taking the piss. There's something almost heroic about The Drones. Since they're Australian, the obvious thing is to draw a parallel between them and The Birthday Party, and for once that's pretty apt. They share the same abrasive, noisy edge, although singer Gareth Liddiard sounds more antipodean than Nick Cave ever did. Throw in a bit of dirty, primal blues and the picture starts to become complete.
The Minotaur, from their 2008 album Havilah, isn't my usual fare but it does come as a very welcome change. File this one under future rock classic.
