James Blackshaw - Fix
It seems that James Blackshaw is moving ever further from his 12-string guitar debut. I wonder if the people who wanted him to be the next John Fahey are disappointed by this? Maybe, one day, someone will be able to mention his name without also bringing up his 12-string. One day, but not today.
There's no guitar on Fix, from his latest album The Glass Bead Game, just piano, cello and violin. The sound is amazing, at once warm and distant, as if the piano is ever so slightly out of tune. It is simple and lovely, rather like a baroque Erik Satie, and will probably end up on a film soundtrack within the year. Grab a listen before that happens so you can hear it without someone else's pictures.
