MGMT - This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)
You would not believe the number of cover versions of This Must Be The Place I have had to sit through, nor the new and exciting ways of bringing something excruciating to this song. Tiresome jam bands, indie darlings, wistful singer-songwriters: they've all had a go, and they've all failed miserably.
This, however, is rather charming.
It's taken from a bootleg of MGMT's third or fourth gig, back in April 2003. It's not that polished, it's not that well sung and the sound quality is terrible. What makes it so rewarding, however, is that it's possible to hear the fun that Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser are having with the music. And they know how to make some cool noises. Win.
