The minimal, repetitive jazz of Australian trio The Necks often runs to great length. Really great length. We're talking Schlingen-Blängen long. On the one hand this is great as, hey, it's fantastic stuff. On the other, it makes the group rather daunting if you've never heard their stuff before. Where to begin? I may have the answer right here for you.
He Led Them Into The World is taken from The Necks' 1998 album The Boys, a soundtrack to the film of the same name. Even at a concise 10 minute length, this may be a bit too much for some people, but I love it. It's almost as if this gorgeous, insistent, repetitive sound is being made with people with no regard for or knowledge of received musical structures, and yet the sonic logic is undeniable.
