One last time round with this song, once more before the dirt nap. You couldn't entrust the task to anyone more suitable than the remarkable avant-diva Diamanda Galas. Her voice is full of operatic swoops and blues moans and howls, monstrously theatrical yet utterly without pretence. It's one of the most terrifying instruments on this planet. You'll have heard operatic sopranos warble and trill, and doubtless groaned at how naff it sounded. Imagine what it sounds like when Galas is doing that in her bass register. Like an over-ripe cheese, this is music with a proven track record of sending people running from the room, but if you've got the stomach it's a gourmet treat. From the live album La Serpenta Canta.
