Joose Keskitalo - Luoja Auta
Is everyone au fait with the current Finnish folk scene? I know, it's terrible, isn't it? The subject comes up all the time at parties, and you never know which names to drop. Avoid social embarrassment NOW by investing your time in the appreciation of Joose Keskitalo.

Keskitalo has been likened to a young Dylan. There's the same raw, needy voice there. I can't tell you what he sings about, but I do know that the sound he makes grabs you by the throat and won't let go. This is the antithesis of the wistful romantic folkiness that puts me off the genre. It's powerful, almost brutal: his voice and his guitar are clouded in lo-fi distortion, as if from an ancient microphone. There's a beauty and a danger about many of his songs, as found sounds threaten to intrude.

Luoja Auta is the title track from an album he released in 2004. It's a rousing tune, and I think you will love it.

Word has it Ari Asikainen has been filling clubs across Finland with his brand of tender acoustic music - check out Minä Rakastaa.

It's a fishing boat. Fishing with the dulcet tones of a lounge singer drifting in and out of the breeze is the next big status symbol for the idle rich to waste their time with. RussellB is making bank:
