The nervous falsetto funk of Shriekback's A Kind of Fascination is now over 30 years old. It was taken from their debut EP Tench, a record that suffered from a rather muffled production. This track is so strange and urgent that it escapes these problems and demands some attention. Listen to the first few seconds - if you didn't know what was about to come you might almost imagine this to be Fall-esque rockabilly. Indeed, with its sonic interruptions it shares a passing resemblance to the work of MES. The Fall were always a speed band, and this is the most caffeinated thing you're going to hear all week. Itchy music.
