Akron/Family - Ed Is A Portal

Not sure what to make of Ed Is A Portal to be honest with you. Akron/Family were one of the bands who were thrown into the New Weird America scene of the mid-oughties. They share some of the traits that made that whole deal so complacent, namely the Southern jam band influences. Not new and definitely not weird, guys. But there's other stuff at play her that makes this rather more worth your time. It opens like a community singing circle right out of the best of A Silver Mt. Zion and heads straight into some super trancey Henry Flynt banjo. To be fair, not a lot could live up to an intro that strong and while Ed Is A Portal certainly doesn't, it's still worth getting to know. From the 2007 album Love Is Simple.
